Children's Concert

Save the date!
Tuesday, April 14, 2015, is next season's Children's Concert! More information coming soon...
Dear Music Teachers, Classroom Teachers, and Parents:
On Tuesday morning, April 14, 1000 students and their teachers will arrive at the Arapahoe Philharmonic’s Children’s Concert and experience not only orchestral music, but also an entire concert climate designed for kids.
Students arrive at least 30 minutes early and, after being seated, are greeted by adult orchestra players who share their own love of music. The adults demonstrate their instruments, and some members allow students to play their instruments. Students’ eyes sparkle and their brains click as they absorb every detail of how the instrument works, what it sounds like, and how the adult makes the sound. The adults answer a myriad of questions.
The concert begins and students are on the edge of their seats, looking especially at their favorite instrument. Students know what to expect in the concert because the Teacher’s Guide has helped teachers prepare them for their musical experience. The Guide is really great! It connects music and hands-on activities to Language Arts, Social Studies, and Art and is coordinated with the Colorado State Standards in Music. The concert is formal, allowing the children to get the correct feel for appropriate behavior and climate. It is fun because of the music chosen and the narrator/emcee makes the performance interesting and age-appropriate.
Students and teachers leave the concert hall wanting more, exclaiming “That was really cool!” and “I wish I could play an instrument!” and “I loved getting to touch that bass!”
Come and be a part of this exciting experience. We believe we have the most hands-on Children’s Concert in the area and you don’t have to deal with downtown bussing issues. Just jump on C470, take the Broadway exit north, then turn west on County Line Road – just one block to Mission Hills Church, 620 SouthPark Drive. Safe, easy access, great education, and
a fun combination of pieces!
The Arapahoe Philharmonic has a deep commitment to music education, and educating young students is an integral part of our mission statement as evidenced by our sponsorship of children’s concerts for 50 years. A solid majority of the Arapahoe Philharmonic orchestra members are teachers, either in a regular classroom, a music classroom, or a music studio.
All members value the Children’s Concert and volunteer their services for this concert, even though it is in the middle of their business day. Our new, energetic leader, Devin Patrick Hughes, will conduct and the narrator is Steven Taylor – the same fun-loving man from last year who really brings the musical story to life!
Teachers, as you’re planning your second semester curriculum, add a live concert performance with the Arapahoe Philharmonic. Look for more information on this web site in mid-January, but until then, save the date!
